Over 50,000 Russians Returned Home on Aeroflot Flights in 12 Days

Russian flag carrier Aeroflot has transported about 53,000 people home to Russia from March 14 to March 26, the company’s spokesperson Yulia Spivakova told the Rossiya 24 TV channel on Friday.

She noted that Aeroflot had evacuated about 500 Russian citizens from abroad over the past 24 hours.

“Our company earlier performed its final flights from Lisbon and obtained permission to arrange flights from Dubai, so today we will continue to evacuate passengers from the United Arab Emirates,” the spokesperson added.

Also on Friday, the company announced its operational results for February, which show a minimum increase in the number of passengers carried by Aeroflot Group.

The companies belonging to the holding carried 8.2 million passengers during the month, up 0.1% year-on-year. Aeroflot airline alone carried 5.2 million passengers, a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%.

On Friday, Russia suspended regular international flights due to the coronavirus outbreak, its air carriers will only evacuate passengers from abroad. 

A total of 840 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the country so far, and two patients have died.
