The blocking and hunt for all the bookmakers and gambling sites in Moldova continues since March 2021. It started after the amendments to the “On the organization and conduct of gambling” law began to take effect, according to “РК“. The state monopoly on gambling in Moldova was introduced in 2016. Since then the right to the entire gambling business has been assigned to the state company “National lottery of Moldova”.
A few years later, the state decided to share the monopoly with authorized partners. And so the access to the market in the field of slot machines has been given to Austrian company “Novomatic AG”, and in the betting and lottery to “NGM Company”, the founder of which is “NGM SPC Limited”, registered in Dubai. The latter has two companies in Bulgaria, “National Lottery AD” and “New Games AD”.
It is known that since the amendments to the law, more than 229 gambling resources have been blocked in Moldova.
The EU has been systematically tightening the legal regulation of the gambling business since 2017. That year the UK Gambling Commission, for example, reserved the right for itself to suspend or withhold payments for promotion for those who gave ads at the sites, which were violating copyright.
However, it never interfered with the development of the gambling market of Belarus, which is still not in the EU but located in Europe. From the 1st of April online casinos in this country are legalized, and the age for gambling is increased. By the middle of the month, two casinos opened there legally, while the rest were still in the process of the paperwork.
