The number of private investors with brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange since the beginning of 2021 has grown by 1.2 mln people and reached 10 mln, according to the trading platform information released on Thursday, TASS reported.
Over the past year, brokerage accounts were opened by 5 mln people, more than in all previous years. Over the past six years, the number of private investors on the Moscow Exchange has grown tenfold.
“The emergence of an internal investor is important for the entire economy, as it expands the ability of Russian companies to raise capital for business development,” said Yuri Denisov, Chairman of the Board of the Moscow Exchange.
According to the press release of the trading platform, the private investors provide a significant part of the turnover in the exchange markets. Their share in the volume of trading in shares is 42%, bonds – 10.5%, derivatives – 42%, currencies – 14%. In total, individuals have opened over 16 mln brokerage accounts on the Moscow Exchange. The leaders in the number of open accounts of private investors are Sberbank (4.2 mln), Tinkoff Bank (4.19 mln), VTB (1.23 mln), BCS (630,000), and Alfa-Bank (560,000).
