Sheremetyevo Serves More Than 38.5 Million Passengers over First 9 Months of 2019

Sheremetyevo International Airport published the performance results for September and the nine months of 2019. Total passenger traffic in the first nine months of 2019 was 38.536 million passengers, 12.2% up YoY. Between January and September, Sheremetyevo oversaw 292,792 takeoff and landing operations (TOLs), up 11.8% from the same period in 2018. Sheremetyevo is the leading airport in the Moscow Air Hub with 49% of the total passenger traffic.

From January to September 2019, passenger traffic on international flights was up 9.5% (20.57 million), while domestic traffic rose by 15.5% (17.966 million). The number of transfer passengers was up 9.3% over the nine months, amounting to 6.537 million, the airport’s press service said.

In Q3 2019, Sheremetyevo served 15.132 million passengers, 9.4% up YoY. The number of TOLs over the same period rose by 7.2%, to 104,446.

In Q3, international passenger traffic increased by 6.7% to 8.246 million people. The growth in passenger traffic has been attributed to the increased demand for flights to Antalya, Dalaman, Istanbul, Dusseldorf, and Brussels.

The domestic passenger traffic in Q3 rose by 12.7%, to 6.886 million. The growth in passenger traffic has been attributed to the increased demand for flights to Simferopol, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and Makhachkala.

The number of passengers serviced at the airport has increased by 7.1% year-on-year, totaling 4.639 million. In September, passenger traffic on international flights rose by 6.4% and amounted to 2.572 million people, while the number of passengers on domestic routes grew 7.9%, reaching 2.067 million. The number of TOLs in September increased by 5.4% to reach 33,712 operations.

The most popular international destinations from January to September were Antalya, Paris, Yerevan, Beijing, and Tel Aviv. In Q3 2019, Sheremetyevo added two new international destinations; Royal Flight Airlines now serves routes to Rayong (Thailand) and Hefei (China).

In the nine months of 2019, the largest contributors to the increase in Sheremetyevo’s passenger traffic were Aeroflot, Nordwind Airlines, Rossiya Airlines, Pegas Fly, Royal Flight, and Air France. In July 2019, Vietnam Airlines started offering flights from Sheremetyevo.
