Germany Forecasts Consequences of Disconnecting Russia from SWIFT

Disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT payment system would damage the European economy, said the leader of the party Alternative for Germany, Bundestag deputy Tino Krupalla in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“I hope that such steps will not be taken, because it will isolate the country. I also do not know if this is an effective remedy, because in the end it will damage the European economy again. That is why I cannot approve of such a step,” he said.

Russia has already created its own system for financial transfers, and, as the German politician explained, this indicates the search for new ways for the nation.

“And what will Germany gain from this? So here too it will be necessary to bring German interests to the fore. Russia has its own interests, Germany has its own, a dialogue should be built on this, this would allow both sides to establish good relations,” he added Krupalla.

SWIFT is an international interbank system for data exchange and payments, to which more than 11 thousand of the largest organizations in almost all countries are connected.

Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the situation with calls to disconnect Russia from SWIFT.
