Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during today’s telephone conversation agreed to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Arctic Council, which will be held in Iceland on May 19, as reported by Kommersant.

During the conversation, Sergei Lavrov and Anthony Blinken also discussed “approaches to the nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula”, the resumption of the Iranian nuclear deal, as well as tasks in the field of strategic stability, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a press release. In addition, a schedule of other Russian-American contacts was discussed, including Washington’s proposal for a summit between the presidents of Russia and the United States.

Bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Arctic Summit will be the first personal meeting between Sergei Lavrov and Anthony Blinken. As Kommersant wrote, these negotiations may become one of the most difficult in recent years.
