The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) said on Wednesday that the single-dose Sputnik Light vaccine against coronavirus has proven 93.5 percent efficacy in Paraguay, based on the statistics from the South American country’s immunization program.

Sputnik Light, created by the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, showed a 79.4 percent effectiveness rate when it was initially approved for usage in May, Reuters reports.

The RDIF claimed the vaccination was extremely effective among more than 320,000 individuals, using data from Paraguay’s health ministry collected by July 30.

According to RDIF president Kirill Dmitriev, the adoption of the single-component vaccine Sputnik Light allows Paraguayan authorities to reduce vaccination intervals for the public and accelerate the establishment of herd immunity.
