The Ministry of Health canceled the ban on the use of the Sputnik V vaccine for pregnant women, said the head of the department, Mikhail Murashko.

“Today, taking into account the positive results of preclinical studies of the safety of the vaccine, as well as the accumulated data on efficacy and safety in clinical trials and the post-registration period, the expert community, experts decided to remove contraindications for the use of the Gam-COVID-Vac vaccine in pregnant women,” said the minister at a meeting of the presidium of the coordinating council to combat COVID-19.

Thus, he explained, “the possibility of vaccination of pregnant women with a high risk of a severe course of the disease with coronavirus infection is open.”

Murashko announced last week that such a decision could be made. At that time, the number of pregnant women infected with the coronavirus was approaching ten thousand, while some of them were seriously ill.
