UN Concerned over Navalny’s Case

The case of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny is “very worrying” and he must receive all necessary medical treatment, the UN human rights office said on Friday, Reuters reported.

Allies of Navalny accused Russian authorities of thwarting his medical evacuation to Germany on Friday, saying the decision placed his life in mortal danger because the Siberian hospital treating him was under-equipped.

UN human rights spokesman Liz Throssell, asked at a UN briefing in Geneva about reports that Navalny did not have access to his personal physician, said: “Reports of what has happened to Alexei Navalny are very concerning and very worrying … It is important that he get all adequate care that he needs to be able to make a recovery.”
