International organizations, including the UN, OSCE and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, must condemn the actions of the British authorities in connection with the incident with the destroyer Defender. This opinion on Sunday in his Telegram channel was expressed by the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.
“It would be right for international organizations – the UN, OSCE and PACE and the European Parliament – to condemn the actions of the British authorities and call those who are behind this adventure to account,” he wrote.
According to him, the consequences of the British “provocation” could be dire. “Any provocations against a nuclear power endanger peace and global security in general,” the politician is convinced.
In this regard, he considers it incomprehensible that there are no statements from the US and EU about the need to impose sanctions against Great Britain. “It is obvious that they are trying to keep silent,” hush up “the incident. Another manifestation of double standards,” Volodin summed up.
On Wednesday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the invasion of the British destroyer Defender into the territorial waters of the Russian Federation near Cape Fiolent in Crimea. In the Ministry of Defense, the actions of the crew of the British ship were called a gross violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The British side claims that the destroyer carried out “innocent passage through the territorial waters of Ukraine.” According to her version, the Russian servicemen did not open fire in the direction of the ship, but “conducted training exercises.”
