Russia’s Foreign Trade Surplus Declines in January-April

The surplus of Russia’s foreign trade, determined according to the balance of payments methodology, decreased in January-April by 5.5% to $38.255 billion against $40.483 billion in January-April 2020, the Bank of Russia reported.

Exports from Russia increased in January-April by 12.6% to $128.7 billion, imports to Russia – by 22.6% to $90.4 billion.

Russia’s foreign trade turnover increased in four months by 16.5% to $219.1 billion.

At the same time, the foreign trade surplus increased in April by 43.4% in annual terms and by 5.7% in monthly terms to $10.591 billion.

Exports in April jumped by 47.6% in annual terms to $36.863 billion, imports – by 49.4% to $26.272 billion.

Russia’s foreign trade turnover increased in April by 48.3% to $63.135 billion.

According to the Federal Customs Service (FCS), Russia’s foreign trade surplus decreased in 2020 by $73.9 billion (-41.1%) to $104.5 billion. In 2019, the figure fell by 16%.
