Germany Arrests British Citizen on Suspicion of Working for Russian Intelligence

A British person has been detained in Germany on suspicion of working for a Russian intelligence organization, according to a statement issued by Germany’s Office of the Federal Prosecutor on Wednesday, TASS reports.

“Before his incarceration, David S. worked at the British embassy in Berlin and at least once transferred materials collected in the course of his professional operations to a member of a Russian intelligence service in exchange for an undefined sum of money,” according to the statement.

Preliminary information indicates that the suspect has been working for a foreign intelligence service since November 2020.

The detention occurred in the Brandenburg state capital of Potsdam. His residence and workplace were both searched. German prosecutors said the arrest was the product of a joint investigation by German and British police. The suspect’s custody is likely to be decided later today.
