At the request of the local Prosecutor General’s Office, the law enforcement agencies of Germany detained a Russian citizen working in one of the German universities on suspicion of cooperation with the special services of the Russian Federation.
According to the state prosecutor, the suspect is “an employee of the scientific and technical department at one of the universities located in Germany.”
“Between October 2020 and June 2021, he met at least three times with representatives of the Russian intelligence service,” the statement said.
On at least two occasions, he allegedly passed on information that he possessed thanks to his work at the department, and received cash for it.
The arrest was made on Friday, searches were carried out in the suspect’s apartment, as well as at his workplace.
No other significant details are provided.
