The Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immune and Biological Products in Russia can develop a new vaccine against the COVID-19 Delta form within a year, according to the center’s Director General Aidar Ishmukhametov, TASS reports.

Ishmukhametov said that the center’s CoviVac vaccine was 80% effective against the Delta strain.

Last October, the Delta coronavirus variant was discovered in India. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences previously said that this COVID-19 strain may infect individuals even after they had been immunized with the country’s Covaxin and Covishield vaccines. That strain’s Delta Plus variation is thought to be considerably more infectious.
