Long-Range Aviation of the Russian Air Forces Scrambled During Drills

During the drills, long-range aircraft units of the Russian Aerospace Forces stationed in the Saratov, Amur, Irkutsk, and Ryazan areas were scrambled, the Russian Ministry of Defense told reporters on Tuesday, TASS reports.

As part of scheduled tactical flight drills, long-range aviation units stationed in the Saratov, Amur, Irkutsk, and Ryazan areas were intercepted. Long-Range Aviation personnel will have to practice redeployment of aviation equipment to operational airfields, flights with in-flight refueling, and combat employment of aviation weapons against ground targets at ranges during combat training, according to the Defense Ministry.

The drills will feature around 20 pieces of aviation equipment, including strategic missile carriers Tu-160 and Tu-95MS, as well as Il-78 tanker planes, according to the army administration.

Flight tactical exercises with aviation units are being undertaken under the direction of Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash, commander of Long-Range Aviation, according to the ministry.
