The coup d’état in Ukraine in 2014, which resulted in the split of the country and the secession from its structure of Crimea, was organized by the United States and weakly supported by the states of Europe, TASS reports.
This was noted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his article “Be open despite the past”, published on Tuesday on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
“Why did the United States organize a coup, while European countries weakly supported it, provoking a split in Ukraine itself and the withdrawal of Crimea from its composition?” – says the article of the Russian leader.
In general, touching upon the topic of the situation on the European continent after the end of the Cold War and NATO expansion, Putin points out that “many countries were faced with an artificial choice – to be either with the collective West or with Russia.”
