RDIF Expects Sputnik V Approval from WHO

The World Health Organization is expected to approve the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine within two months, according to Kirill Dmitriev, the president of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, which markets the vaccine.

According to the RDIF chief, the European Medicines Agency, which is also studying Sputnik V, “was presented with all fundamental current material, and there are no critical observations at this time.”

Dmitriev did not explain when EMA will be able to make a judgment, instead sending inquiries to the agency, and said that WHO had no substantial critical remarks based on a few inspections. Dmitriev declined to say which manufacturing facilities were visited during the audit.

According to Dmitriev, inspectors are keeping their attitude professional with no significant critical remarks.

The RDIF chief noted that if Russia was not absolutely certain of the transparency of the process, nobody would have been invited.
