Clinical trials of the Sputnik V vaccine among young people 12-17 years old will begin in Moscow in early July. Now there is a recruitment of volunteers, Anastasia Rakova, deputy mayor of the capital for social development, told reporters on Monday.
“In early July, a clinical study of the Sputnik V vaccine for adolescents 12-17 years old will begin in the capital,” Rakova said, as reported by TASS.
She added that the study will be conducted in three phases. The first and second phases will take place on the basis of the Morozov Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Z.A. Bashlyaeva in Moscow. The third phase will take place in the capital’s children’s clinics.
She noted that based on the results, it will be possible to decide on the inclusion of adolescents in the coronavirus vaccination program. In total, 350 people will take part in the study – 100 people in the first and second phases of the study, 250 people in the third phase. A preliminary recruitment of volunteers is currently underway to participate in the first and second phases of the study.
The study will be able to take part in adolescents who have not previously had COVID-19, have no contraindications to the drug or other medical contraindications. A temporary contraindication may be an acute respiratory viral infection two weeks before the expected date of vaccination or a vaccination against another disease, given less than 30 days before the “Sputnik V” vaccination. Teenagers will be offered to be vaccinated with Sputnik V, which is already used to vaccinate people over 18 years of age, but at a lower dosage.
