The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, same as last year during the outbreak of the pandemic, appealed to metallurgical companies with a request to increase the production of oxygen for hospitals, RIA Novosti reported.

Last year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has already turned to metallurgists with a similar request. An inventory of industrial oxygen production facilities was carried out, which can also produce medical oxygen.

The production of products in demand in the fight against COVID-19 was done at another enterprise in Russia – in the Volgograd region.

The Modus company, which previously specialized in argon, nitrogen, and gas mixtures, became one of the producers of medical oxygen, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported.

In the Perm Territory, the Motovilikhinskiye Zavody company under the control of RT-Capital of the state corporation Rostec has begun the production of high-purity oxygen with a concentration of 99.9% for the needs of medical institutions.

According to the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov, the country has reserves to increase the production of medical oxygen by 400 tons. Today, 137 enterprises in 64 regions produce a total of about 2 thousand tons of oxygen per day.

“There are reserves for increasing the output by at least 400 tons of oxygen. Oxygen is supplied to the hospital segment in liquid form. The rest of the volume goes in cylinders in a gaseous state. Today it is about 30 thousand cylinders per day. In this part, we are fully supplied with oxygen. However, we constantly monitor the needs of our regions and, if necessary, we will manually coordinate interregional deliveries,” Manturov explained.
