Russia Plans to Increase All Vegetables Production in 2020

Russia’s Deputy Agriculture minister Dzhambulat Khatuov held a conference call on the development of vegetable growing in the country’s regions this week, the participants of which discussed issues of increasing the production stocks of potatoes and vegetables, Potato System reports.

The event was attended by the heads of regional governing bodies of the agro-industrial complex, scientific institutions, industrial unions, and organizations.

Khatuov noted that the Ministry of Agriculture will continue to provide comprehensive support to agricultural producers involved in the development of potato and vegetable growing.

“Despite the high production indicators of the past 2019, to ensure food security in Russia, it is necessary to carry out additional adjustments to the structure of sown areas, which will increase the production of all groups of vegetable products to 25% this year,” the official noted.

The participants also discussed existing state support measures affecting all stages of production and processing of vegetable products and potatoes. So, within the framework of a stimulating subsidy, the subjects of the Russian Federation have the right to choose priority areas, including “open-field vegetable growing,” which allows regions to provide additional support to farmers engaged in the production of vegetables.
