Russian Ambassador Denies Allegations of Manipulating the European Gas Market

The accusations against Russia of manipulating the European gas market are perplexing, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev said, Russian media reported.

The Russian Embassy drew attention to the statements of some German politicians, who assert that the leadership of Russia and Gazprom is artificially limiting gas supplies to Europe.

The restrictions allegedly lead to “unprecedented growth in spot prices” and indicate a “desire” to freeze “Europeans”, such politicians argue.

According to Nechaev, this is an open “fake” and an example of “a primitive anti-Russian stuffing, which is being replaced by an objective analysis of the situation.”

Gazprom flawlessly fulfills all obligations under contracts with European consumers.

“For more than 50 years of successful cooperation with European countries in the gas sector, the supply of raw materials has never been used by Moscow as an “energy weapon” or “instrument of pressure,” he stressed.
