On Sunday, Russia recorded 20,564 new COVID-19 instances, including 1,661 in Moscow and 1,481 in St. Petersburg, bringing the total number of cases to 6,747,087 across the country, Reuters reports.
According to the Russian anti-coronavirus crisis center, 762 additional coronavirus patient fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 176,044.
Between April and June of this year, Rosstat, the government statistics office, kept a separate tally from the coronavirus crisis center and reported around 315,000 fatalities attributable to COVID-19.
According to Reuters calculations and the latest Rosstat statistics, Russia reported roughly 463,000 more fatalities from April 2020 to June this year. Excess fatalities, according to some epidemiologists, are the best method to estimate the true mortality toll from COVID-19.
