Russian Authorities to Develop Shipbuilding for Arctic

State-run nuclear body Rosatom and the AEON Corporation will collaborate on the construction of ice-class vessels to transport coal from the Taimyr Peninsula.

According to Rosatom’s press office, the deal calls for the construction of boats of the Arc5 class and above, as well as tows of the Arc6/Icebreaker6 class, to transport general cargo and products from the Syradasayskoye coal field on the Taimyr Peninsula (the deposit is developed by the Severnaya Zvezda Company, a part of AEON).

The Severnaya Zvezda Company is implementing a project to organize a coal complex at the world’s largest coal resource, Syradasayskoye.

Dikson is 110 kilometers away (the Krasnoyarsk Region). The total amount of recoverable resources is expected to be 5 billion tonnes.

The project entails the organization of production with an annual output of up to 10 million tonnes, the building of a processing facility, and the required infrastructure, including the construction of a new Yenisei harbor.
