Airports across Russia could introduce automated passport control systems, which will allow passengers to automatically pass through passport control using biometric data and foreign passports, RT reported.
Border and customs officers have already conducted testing of the systems at Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo airports, and based on its results, a decision will be made for the possibility of introducing the automated passport control into operation.
According to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), in the first phase the automated passport border control system will be used by departing or arriving Russian passengers without movement restrictions.
Earlier, Russian authorities also indicated they are considering to allow transit passengers to travel without visas outside checkpoints at Russian airports.
