Kozak: Response to U.S. Sanctions against Nord Stream 2 Will Be Balanced and Adequate

Russia’s response to U.S. sanctions on the Nord Stream-2 project and other gas pipelines will be balanced and adequate, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, Kommersant reported.

“While we are engaged in [elaboration of retaliatory measures]. We will make a balanced and adequate decision. The gas pipeline will be completed, in spite of any sanctions and restrictions. We understand how to do this,” Kozak said in an interview with the Vesti Nedeli with Dmitry Kiselev program on Rossiya-1 TV channel, as quoted by TASS.

Recall, December 21, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a bill on the defense budget for the 2020 fiscal year in the amount of $ 738 billion, which provides for sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream pipelines.

The document stated that the reason for the restrictions was “protecting European energy security”. Due to U.S. sanctions, the Swiss company Allseas Group SA – the Nord Stream-2 pipe-laying machine – suspended operations and removed its gas pipeline laying vessels from the Baltic Sea.
