Power Unit No. 1 of Belarusian NPP Included in the Grid

Power unit No. 1 of the Belarusian NPP (BelNPP) is again included in the grid. The power unit shut down on July 12 after the automatic protection of the generator was triggered, according to the Ministry of Energy of Belarus, local media reported.

At the power unit, the parts of the turbine generator exciter were replaced, after which the unit was connected to the network.

“On October 4 at 18:20 the first power unit of the BelNPP is connected to the grid,” the Ministry of Energy of Belarus notes.

BelNPP employees are increasing the electric power of the turbine generator, now it is 360 MW.

“The power unit was connected to the grid following the requirements of the technological regulations for safe operation without any comments,” the Ministry of Energy of Belarus said.

The construction of the BelNPP in the town of Ostrovets (Grodno region) is being carried out according to the standard Russian project of the new generation “three plus” AES-2006. BelNPP has two power units with a capacity of 1200 MW each.

The general contractor for the construction is Atomstroyexport (ASE). The commissioning of power unit No. 1 of the BelNPP into commercial operation took place in the first quarter of 2021, the commissioning of power unit No. 2 is scheduled for 2022.
