US Will Continue to Fight against Nord Stream 2

The US will continue to oppose the Nord Stream 2 (SP-2) project, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said.

On the eve, Gazprom began to fill the first line of SP-2 with gas, said the pipeline operator Nord Stream 2 AG (owned by Gazprom).

“We do not have a concrete answer to the statement you are referring to. Our policy … is that we continue to oppose this gas pipeline. We continue to believe that this is a geopolitical project of Russia,” Price said at a press briefing.

The US will “continue to apply the law” to JV-2. Washington has already imposed sanctions against a number of companies and ships involved in the construction of the SP-2. Companies that conduct project testing and certification are also subject to sanctions.

SP-2 with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters gas per year passes from the Slavyanskaya compressor station in the Kingisepp district of the Leningrad region along the bottom of the Baltic Sea to the coast of Germany.

The laying of the first string was completed in early June, the second in September. Gazprom believes that by the end of the year Europe can receive almost 5.6 billion cubic meters through the joint venture.
