A high-level celebration dedicated to the start of construction of the Center of Collective Use “Siberian Ring Photon Source” (CCP SKIF) will be held at the end of August, at the  Technoprom-2021 International Scientific and Technological Forum in Novosibirsk.

In the Year of Science and Technology, the forum will announce the start of construction of a new Megascience class installation. In addition, representatives of the domestic and international scientific community will discuss research programs and projects planned for implementation at the CCP SKIF.

“SKIF” will become not only the most modern source of synchrotron radiation of 4+ generation, but also a center for collective use, where researches will be conducted in many areas. This large-scale infrastructure project will allow Russia to bring fundamental science to a new level and at the same time solve applied problems in materials science, solid state physics, nano – and biotechnologies, medicine. Every year up to two thousand scientists from all over the world will be able to conduct their research here,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister, co-chairman of the organizing committee of the Year of Science and Technology.

The construction of the CCP “Siberian Ring Photon Source” was initiated within the framework of the national project “Science and Universities”, the project cost is estimated at 37.1 billion rubles.

In June, the first elements of a linear accelerator of a synchrotron radiation source and magnetic elements of a booster ring were manufactured on the base of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. And by the end of 2023, a test (technical) launch of the installation is planned.

Today, there are synchrotrons of 1 and 2+ generations in Russia. The installation of the CCP “SKIF”, belonging to the generation 4+, will allow to study the atomic structure of substances and will become the most advanced of its kind. Compared with synchrotrons of previous generations, the CCP SKIF will have improved characteristics. The installation will allow generating synchrotron radiation with smaller beam sizes, higher intensity and much higher spectral brightness.

In parallel with the installation, it is planned to implement a digital twin “SKIF”, which will be created on the basis of a BIM model built during the design of the synchrotron by the Central Design and Technology Institute of Rosatom. The digital experiment will start from the SSC VB “Vector” station of Rospotrebnadzor, the creation of a digital double will be provided by the Federal Research Center for Information and Computing Technologies, the project is announced within the framework of the activities of the State Program for the Development of Synchrotron and Neutron Technologies.

Future industrial partners of SKIF will be able to refer to the capabilities of the new installation within the framework of the Technoprom – 2021 forum. The forum will be held within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology from August 25 to 27 in Novosibirsk and will bring together more than 1,500 participants in person and more than 2,000 in online format.

The main topic of discussion will be the search for effective forms of interaction between science, business and the state for the implementation of advanced developments in all spheres of life and industrial production. The forum will be held for the eighth time. It has established itself as a platform for putting key issues of the country’s scientific and technological policy on the agenda.
