The Moscow metro has launched a fare payment system based on face biometrics, ICT Moscow reported.
At the first stage of the test launch, the Face Pay system will be available for 1000 passengers at the stations of the Filevskaya metro line. Turnstiles supporting this fare payment method are marked with a special sticker on the floor.
The use of biometrics will become an additional, but not mandatory option when passing the metro. The technology will be gradually introduced on other lines and will become available at all stations by the end of this year.
According to the head of the Moscow Department of Transport Maxim Liksutov, the metro employees are already using this service and have made more than 1 million passes at the station with the new system.
